Taylor (Poetry)

Lightning bolt streaked across the sky
Bifurcated the heavens ultraviolent
Subdivided the world into red and blue
Why not mix them into Violet

I found out all your words were true
But not before my heart got violent
Before I could assemble the crew
The choir of my heartsong went silent

Took flight on crippled wings
Turbulence tore the rudder
Even as my angels sing
I’m still torn asunder

Underfed on the loaves unleavened
You were right in front of my nose
Used your harmonies as my glue
Adverbs flooding the soup of my prose

You were tailored just for me
Your shape made to curve into mine
But it took me twenty years to see
And now you’ve crossed that line

There’s no way back now
The numbers were right
About my swift scarecrow
Yet the future is still bright
