Jess of the Shire made a video about sir Gawain and the green knight. She also talked about a pretty weird but creative film adaptation that came out a few years ago. The big point is that all stories are basically adaptations of what stories that came before and what we think of now as canon was never really meant to be that. It just was a story someone told and it just kept getting built upon. Something to think about.
I think why so many stories today underdeliver and fail to meet our expectations, then even fall apart the more we scrutinize them, is that they are built on increasingly hollow premises. So many stories don’t have anything really to say. Other than remember this? Endless references and meme worthy moments. Content is memes. It’s all bits and jokes that don’t quite land right if you really stop and consider them even briefly.
We take so many social constructs for granted. Including holidays. This Christmas around here no one decorated. Like at all. Hardly if any family gatherings. So many people just got Chinese food because nothing else but Denny’s was open. It all felt so empty and sad. Christmas is no longer a time for joy. In the course of just one year, society has backslid so far that now nothing seems worth celebrating.
One happy thing I discovered this year: v8 fixes my digestion. My digestive ph was too basic and a couple little cans of original v8 veggie juice makes it so I digest normally again. How about that?
Playing a game called cassette beasts where you record monsters and transform into them. Kind of a neat alternative to Pokemon and the game was free. Played for about an hour and I think it’s gonna be a fun game. [I never really played it again, but neat concept.]
I played a ton of Gen one solo runs on poke rogue. Mewtwo was especially fun. And I still never remembered to check the word of the day so I’ll do that now at 7:30 before I chill out for the night.
Today it’s apropos, as in “with regards to” something. Most commonly you hear apropos of nothing, as in something that comes out of nowhere, which is something I do a lot. It can also stand in for “suitable” or “appropriate”. It’s a good word to have in the toolbox.
